Smack to biscuit container against the counter for it to pop open. Pull apart the biscuits. Flatten them out like you would with pizza dough. On each flattened biscuit, spread pesto. Top with fresh mozzarella and tomatoes.

I have survived the first 2 weeks of school. Not just as the teacher but also as a student. I surprised myself by enjoying my class and being a vocal participant in the class discussion. The time must be right to be back in school despite my initial misgivings.

The class I have this year will challenge my teaching skills. Of my current 19 students, 3 are English Language Learners, 1 autistic who is high academically, 1 life skills, 4 multi-categorical,and 1 TAG (Talented and Gifted). I have to make sure I made accommodations for these students throughout the school day. I worry about the coming testing period for the special needs students as well as the rest of my students. I have to prepare them to do their best in order to meet this year's trajectory set by the the powers that be. I wish they would set foot in a classroom, not necessarily mine, in order to make realistic decisions that affect us all.

I propose that all those having the ability to make important decisions that affect education spend time teaching in a classroom. Not visit for 20 minutes but actually form, manage and teach a class for a good length of time. I believe that their eyes will be opened and perhaps they will allow the voices of those that actually touch and enrich the lives of these precious beings that we serve, be heard. Teachers need help dealing not just with academically challenged students but also with social, emotional and behavioral issues. I am a good teacher but I am frustrated with the amount of time it takes to deal with issues other than academics.
