Our Key West weekend has been carrying me through the month of December. After the extreme busyness of November, (progress reports were due, this year is the first year everything is done electronically).Taking that break was a welcome relief. The beach was beautiful. The weather was perfect. The food eclectic and company was easygoing and fun.
The onset of December has brought the end of my training of a student teacher who turned out to be outstanding. Therefore I miss her. Her extra pair of eyes and hands to help out in the classroom. She was the reason I could go to Key West. The preparation to leave my classroom for three days was nominal as she knew the lessons, the routine and my students.
The prospect of the holiday season excites my students and it takes a lot of energy to keep them focused on their lessons.Heck, they are third graders. They should be a little squirrelly this time of year.Yet, I continue to implement reading strategies to increase comprehension and math skills. Finding the balance of acknowledging that it is Christmastime and pretending that it is not here is challenging.
We have 4 more days before the holiday break. Will I make it?
